Marlon Pierce
Biography
Dr. Marlon Pierce is the director of the Science Gateways Research Center, part of the Indiana University Pervasive Technology Institute. Pierce's work focuses on the application of distributed and web computing concepts to the development of science gateway cyberinfrastructure, and on the use of open source software engineering and community development principals. He has served as Principal Investigator on numerous National Science Foundation awards to develop and deliver open source software and services for enabling science, he leads the Extended Developer Support component of the Science Gateways Community Institute, and he is the former manager of the XSEDE science gateways program. Since 2016, Pierce has co-instructed a graduate course at Indiana University on science gateway architectures, emphasizing the use of distributed systems concepts in the building of modern cloud systems. Pierce received his PhD from Florida State University in computational condensed matter physics.
