Travis Johnston earned his PhD in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina in 2014. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Delaware working with Dr. Michela Taufer in the Global Computing Laboratory where he was introduced to both machine learning and high performance computing. He joined the Computational Data Analytics group at ORNL in 2016. He was a Gordon Bell finalist in 2018 where he was part of a team using Summit to create custom neural networks for novel scientific datasets.
