Benjamin Welton is an eighth year PhD student studying Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. His research interests include GPU performance tools/techniques, binary analysis/modification, extreme scale communication frameworks, and distributed algorithms. Notable works that Ben created include Mr. Scan (SC13) and Diogenes (SC19). Mr Scan is an extreme scale density based clustering algorithm that was the first DBSCAN based clustering algorithm to scale to 8192 GPU equipped nodes and process more than 1 billion points per minute. Diogenes is a GPU performance tool that automates the identification of problematic (and hidden) interactions between the CPU/GPU, providing the user an estimate of the benefit that could be obtained by correcting the problem.
