Biography
Pieter Ghysels is a research scientist in the Scalable Solvers Group of the Computational Research Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California. His main interests are in High Performance Computing (HPC) and applied numerical linear algebra. Pieter has expertise in both iterative methods and direct methods for the solution of dense and sparse systems of linear equations. He is the main author of the STRUMPACK software library, which offers solvers and preconditioners for large sparse linear systems as well as memory effient representations of (structured) dense matrices, through the use of hierarchical matrix formats such as HSS, HODLR, H and BLR. He received an Engineering degree in 2006 and a PhD in 2010, from KULeuven, the (Flemmish) Catholic University in Leuven, Belgium.
