Biography
William Kramer assumes the role of the Director of the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC), a joint research center of Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, in the fall of 2019, with an additional position as a research faculty member in CMU’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Bill is most recently known as the Project Director and Principal Investigator of the Blue Waters Project and the Senior Associate Director for @Scale Science and Technology at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was General Manager of the National Energy Research Supercomputing Center (NERSC) and a Branch Chief in NASA’s Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation division. He has authored over 70 papers about high end computing and data analysis, performance evaluation and reliability/resiliency. He was the General Chair of SC05. He has received multiple awards from NASA, DOE, ACM and others.
