Biography
Dr Thomas Connor is the Bioinformatics Lead for Pathogen Genomics within Public Health Wales NHS Trust, a Reader at Cardiff University, and group leader at the Quadram Institute. Trained as a bioinformatician and molecular epidemiologist, and awarded his PhD in 2011, Dr Connor joined Cardiff in 2012. Following work developing local HPC and storage at Cardiff he worked with colleagues in Birmingham to design and provide the technical leadership for the £4M MRC CLIMB federated research cloud, which is currently used by over 300 research groups from 89 UK organisations. Since 2016, he has led the development of bioinformatics infrastructure for pathogen genomics within Public Health Wales. This has included software development, integration with CLIMB, building new HPC resources within the NHS, and the development of national strategy as part of Genomics Partnership Wales. To date he has published over 50 research papers which have collectively received over 6500 citations.
