Biography
Louise Brown is a Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham. She currently holds an EPSRC Research Software Engineering Fellowship on Software for Textile Modelling and Simulation.
Her first degree was in Mechanical Engineering, followed by a PhD in automated manufacture of filament wound composite components. Since that time she has worked as a software engineer on projects as diverse as CAD systems for industrial embroidery machines and automatic recognition of travel documents. She returned to academia in 2009 to a role combining her software engineering and composite materials expertise, responsible for the development of open source software TexGen.
She is a member of the UK RSE Leaders network and chaired the Third Conference of Research Software Engineers in 2018. She is keen to promote diversity in computing careers and has been on the committee of BCSWomen for more than 10 years.
